Deedee

This is Deedee. She was brought into the family about 12 years ago, when no one in the family had any idea of how to look after a dog. Being kids not older than 14, all of us were just excited with the thought of having a pet dog! All we knew to do was to play with her.
Deedee was left alone most of the time, accompanied by the family helper, while we went on with school, meeting friends and whatnots.

Then Deedee met some friends. Balls, Bambi and Pebble. Their owners taught me to care more for a dog, to look after a dog properly. I learnt to spend more time with my dog, but she had to stay home most of the time due to her allergy to grass. I bought Deedee treats, brought her to cafes once in awhile and tried to let her swim.

But Deedee was getting old.

One day, she fell from a roadside curb and hurt arm.

One day, her stomach got more bloated and nobody thought of it as an alarming issue.

One day, she became immobile and laid next to a pile of watery shit, hurting each time someone tried to carry her up.

And that day, she was put to sleep.

I cried to sleep that night, and the next few days. I went home, every evening, expecting her to greet me at the door. I found myself still looking out for her when I walked in the dark. I grieved over the lost of a family member.

I'm sorry I never learned to be a responsible owner, and I never got attached to you enough.

But you will never leave my heart, you will always be loved.
